June 8th: More mountains!

Another bus ride took me to Dali, which is backed up against beautiful green mountain on three sides, the largest being  Cang Shan, elevation of the town is around  6500ft  . It is also very close to Er Hai lake, the 2nd largest highland lake in China, just a short bike ride away, or one can even walk if particularly energetic. The population is mostly made up of the Bai tribe.

Loved Dali, had a fantastic time there! Very chill little town, easy to walk or cycle, as I did around the old town and some parts of the new as well. Great little cafes, bars and restaurants! The weather was pretty mild, which I’ve heard is fairly consistent year round. There was an opportunity for a job at a local bar, which I was very tempted to go after, but it would end up costing way too much $ to change all of my flights. Really kicking myself for having booked so many of flights in advance! As with Lijiang, I found the locals in Dali much friendlier and they didn’t stare as much!

Overall, loved southwestern China, could have really skipped most of the other places, with the exception of trekking an original part of the Great Wall, which was very cool and quite likely a once in a lifetime experience!
