What else does one say about Hong Kong? Too glitzy for this chick and never thought I feel this way, but for the first time ever, I felt unglamorous! HK women really do glam it up, must be the million and one designer stores in the endless succession of shopping malls!
Good things about HK…the ability to wear a cutesy summer dress at night and not freeze your ass off; very efficient, easy and inexpensive metro system, good food and drink and nightlife. Other than that, too much of a concrete and steel jungle for my taste.
First day was spent up at Victoria Peak, fantastic view of the area! Of course, had to do a little retail theraphy on day 2, come on, it’s HK! But mostly, I spent a good deal of my time in HK trying to figure out my next step. Japan was proving to be too expensive on all fronts, so decided to make one last attempt at acquiring a Chinese visa. Eureka! Pants easy as the Brits would say!
Thankfully, I was able to get away on my last full day, and go for a morning hike up Dragon’s Back with this Canadian dude I met that lives here, and who was kind enough to extended his hospitability to a lone traveler. On my last night, took the Star Ferry over to Kowloon, had dinner on the pier and watched the HK skyline come to life! It sucks to be me!
